A voice for Flowery Branch

June 26, 2008

I am going to start to talk about local, state, and federal issues because there are a large number of important issues and elections ahead. I also am going to flat out tell you, I am a Republican, and I believe the United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and that is why I have a copy of the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and United States Constitution hanging in my home office, to remind me, of my duties as an elected official.

LOCAL
Not much going on in Flowery Branch today. Tomorrow we will get our books for our next City Council meeting for July 2, 2008. Please come to the meeting that is unfortunately at 9:30 AM, while most people are working.

There are, though, a number of Hall County Primary races, which will be decided July 15.

STATE
As is with the local elections, there are a number of state primaries coming up.

FEDERAL
The big news is the United States Supreme Court’s decision on the second amendment on the District of Columbia vs Heller. I am not going to bore you with a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo. I am going to speak from the heart. Thank GOD for the 5-4 vote, but shame on the 4 NO votes – what Liberals those people are.

The right to bare arms is the Second Amendment only behind the right of freedom of speech. That seemed to be a very important issue for the founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson said, “For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security”. The word Militia meaning, “An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers”, means average citizens – not professional soldiers trained and given arms by the government such as the armed forces or police agencies. When the militia was used in colonial and post United States times, the militia used their personal weapons to defend their lands – not government issued.

This lawsuit started in the District of Columbia, who thinks they are a state, as well as the same city that re-elected a crack head mayor several years ago. I cannot wait to see what comes out of New Orleans after they re-elected a mayor who was not smart enough to evacuate a city with city school busses and complained the federal government did not do enough after Hurricane Katrina.
