We are 9 day away from the sewer rate meeting and there are a couple of letters floating around south Hall County. Here is one and here is the other. Please forward these on to our neighbors or download it and hand it out in your neighborhood.
We need to take a stand as one and let our elected officials know they are wrong on this issue.
I look forward to seeing all of you January 8 at 5:00 PM at the Georgia Mountain Center in Gainesville.

Now that Christmas is over, and yes there are only 364 days shopping days left until next Christmas.
It is time to get ready to let the Hall County Commissioners we are not happy with the proposed new sewer rates they will vote on at the January 8, 2009 meeting. Craig Lutz has a letter we will pass out ready soon and I will post it on my website and blog for you to pass along and email to everyone.
We need a strong showing January 8, 2009 at the commissioner’s meeting.

First and foremost I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you, from my family to yours, a Merry Christmas.
Now that I am not PC (politically correct) because I wished you all a Merry Christmas, let me say I do not care about being PC. I am a Christian and Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and I will always wish someone Merry Christmas – period.
To all those businesses, who will not allow their employees, especially in the retail word, wish the customers a Merry Christmas – shame on you.
Here is the definition of Christmas from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Please read where it says “literally” and it says “Christ’s mass”. As I tell the city attorneys when they try to tell me a definition based on law dictionaries, I usually reply, “I only use the Webster Dictionary”.
This political correctness has gotten way out of line. Was it politically correct for our founding fathers to go against England? I think not and because of their wisdom and vision, we now live in the greatest country given to man by God and I refuse to be PC to anyone for any reason.
Once again, Merry Christmas.

LOCAL
I thought I was going to have a few weeks to spend with my family during Christmas without a lot of distractions, but the Hall County sewer rate situation affecting 500 homes in Flowery Branch as well about an addition 1000 other homes, mainly in Reunion and Deaton Creek, has kept me busy.
We are planning a meeting shortly before the January 8, 2009 County Commissioners, on the sewer rates issue, to tell you what the county has failed to inform you on. As we have all been discussing, this directly affects your pocketbook and there is an easy solution.
As I told one commissioner in a private conversation, after I mentioned that I believe Hall County is not very happy with Councilman Lutz and myself, it is my job to protect the current 500 homes of Flowery Branch, on the Hall County sewer, as well as the future 1500 homes that will be built. If I must take on big brother, then I will.

Last night Councilman Lutz and myself went to the voting session of the Hall County Commissioners. There was a vote on Chapter 13.10, entitled “Sewer and Sewage Disposal”, which will set the new sewer rates for the Hall County rates in the Mulberry Creek sewer system at $9.87 ccf (1 ccf = 748 gallons). This as you may not know will be based off of your City of Gainesville water usage.
My last City of Gainesville water bill was 6 ccf, so my new sewer usage will also be 6 ccf at $9.87 per ccf for a total of $59.22 plus an administrative fee of $7.26 for a new sewer bill of $66.48, which is $24.48, or 36.82% higher.
If I were on City of Gainesville sewer, 6 ccf at $5.77 per ccf for a total of $34.62 plus an administrative fee of $6.88 for a new sewer bill of $41.50 which is $.50 or 1.19% lower.
If I were on City of Flowery Branch sewer, 6 ccf = 4488 gallons, because Flowery Branch bases it’s rate based on per 1000 gallons, and my cost would be $29.87 plus an administrative fee of $2.50 for a new sewer bill of $32.37 which is $9.63 or 22.92% lower.
This new rate Hall County is proposing directly affects all of south Hall County to include Sterling on the Lake, Reunion, and Village at Deaton Creek. The next County Commissioners meeting, and the last opportunity to oppose this, is the second reading on January 8, 2009 and we need a massive turnout of opposition on these sewer rates. Lets make it standing room only.
By the way, our County Commissioner Bobby Banks motioned to pass the first reading.

The council meeting yesterday was a big disappointment and the majority of the council voted in such a way that currently 500 or so residents and an additional 1500 or so future residents of Flowery Branch, particularly those who live in Sterling on the Lake, will probably have to pay higher sewer rates by double or more.
Here are a couple of articles about yesterday’s council meeting in the Gainesville Times and Access North Ga.
I will blog on this over the next several days due to the complexity of this issue and the fact there are several portions to break down.
I will say this is a bad decision for Flowery Branch.

You can read the transcript of the enditment and see how many times the word Pesident Elect is used. Do not worry, I did the work for you. 44 times!! I guess the new president elect gets to start off with an investigation. Is this CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN?

NATIONAL/STATE
Thank you Georgia. Your vote saved any possibility of the Liberal Democrats from absolutely destroying our freedoms as it pertains to taxes, gun control, and absentee ballots for unions. It will still be a hard fight for the Republicans as long as they remember why they are there and they forget about worrying about getting re-elected. If they do their job, they will get re-elected. If they continue to act as they have for the last 4 years or so – we will lose more seats in 2010.
OBAMANOMICS
I am sick and tired of hearing how great Obama has done on his cabinet selections. You cannot change the mind of a socialist in a few weeks. The only one I agree with is Robert Gates, the Secretary of Defense, because of his impressive background, and he is an independent, but when the time comes, Obama will drop him like a bad habit.

Tonight I was fortunate enough to go to the Saxby Chambliss rally and saw Sarah Palin speak. What a great conservative leader she is. If you think she is good on television, you should see her in person. I would guess 8,000 people were at the Gwinnett Arena.
I guess Sarah Palin is a far cry from one of Jim Martin’s speakers today at the state capital – Ludacris. Maybe he rapped a lyric for Jim Martin about whatever gangster rappers rap about. Or maybe Ludacris’ posse held up the signs on stage.
Remember to vote for Saxby Chambliss on December 2, 2008.
